Inspired to serve, rather than be served
The MCF-A Exec, Council and Staff Worker thank all our MCF-A Reps and supporters for all the hard work put in to keep MCF-A going and support and encourage Christians in Defence. Volunteer support can come in many forms and doesn’t go unnoticed!
Here’s a story that was published in a Defence magazine from one of our wonderful MCF-A volunteers……
Inspired to serve, rather than be served
Ken S (SED) has been active in various DSTG social and staff clubs since he joined DSTO Materials Research Laboratory in Maribyrnong many years ago. He is currently Treasurer of the Defence Edinburgh Staff Club Inc. (DESC), and recently re-started the Military Christian Fellowship at DSTG Edinburgh.
‘During the past eight years I have been active in the International Pyrotechnics Society, most recently as President; in the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) my national committee roles have included advancing Inclusion and Diversity, as well as Member Assessment to recommend new RACI Fellows. More locally, I am Treasurer of the SA Branch of the RACI, and this has involved a lot of collaboration with researchers at SA universities, as well as advancing STEM education in SA.
‘Despite all this, I am sure I have been a net benefactor of the volunteering efforts of many others over the years. While generally a benefactor, I have found that when I am really interested in something at work, a social activity or a technology area, it is much more fulfilling to participate to advance it. Usually there are few volunteers, so a single person can often make a real difference to others. I see the basis for volunteering in the words of Jesus, who “did not come to be served, but to serve” (Matthew 20:28).
Best wishes,
Ken
