Mighty Men Riverina: A Weekend of Faith, Fellowship and Purpose

A few months ago, my son and I attended the Mighty Men Riverina Conference, and we found it to be an exceptional weekend of worship, fellowship, and biblical teaching. In some ways, the camaraderie and sense of shared purpose reminded me of the fellowship I experienced during my time in the ADF.

Mighty Men Riverina is part of the broader Mighty Men movement, which began in South Africa when farmer and evangelist Angus Buchan felt called by God to challenge men to surrender their lives fully to Christ and to live faithfully in their marriages, families, workplaces, churches, and communities. The conference is not organised by a single church denomination. Instead, it is led by men from a wide range of churches across rural New South Wales who are united by a common desire to see men follow Jesus wholeheartedly. Each year, farmers, builders, agronomists, tradesmen, and men from many other walks of life gather together for a weekend of worship, teaching, and encouragement.

While attendees come from diverse backgrounds and face different challenges, they share a common testimony: lives transformed through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. These transformations are evident in restored families, strengthened marriages, renewed hope, and a deeper sense of purpose. The conference exists to encourage men to follow Jesus as Lord in every area of life.

I attended the weekend not knowing quite what to expect, but with an open mind and heart. To God’s glory, it proved to be a powerful and inspiring experience. Hundreds of men from across eastern Australia gathered in unified worship, prayer, and teaching, openly seeking God’s direction for their lives. As a former soldier, I particularly appreciated the direct and practical application of Scripture and the authenticity of the farming community. I was struck by their resilience in the face of adversity—navigating droughts, floods, rising costs, and the many pressures that continue to challenge the viability of farming life. Their faith, perseverance, and reliance on God were both humbling and encouraging.

The testimonies shared by farmers and other attendees were powerful expressions of God’s transformative work. Pastor Danny and the guest speakers brought the Scriptures to life in a way that was both challenging and deeply relevant. Throughout the weekend, I sensed the presence of the Holy Spirit in every aspect of the gathering—from the preaching and worship to the conversations around campfires and the meals shared together.

I have never considered myself particularly evangelistic. Yet following this experience, I have felt strongly led to share this ministry with others and to invite my “one more” to experience the fellowship, encouragement, and life-changing message of Mighty Men Riverina. My prayer is that more men would come to know Jesus Christ, grow in their faith, and live for His glory. Soli Deo Gloria – to God alone be the glory.
